Farscape

Farscape is an Australian-American science fiction television series filmed in Australia and produced for the Sci-Fi Channel. The series was conceived by Rockne S. O'Bannon and produced by Jim Henson Productions and Hallmark Entertainment. The Jim Henson Company was largely responsible for the various alien makeup and prosthetics, and two regular characters (the animatronic puppets Rygel and Pilot) are entirely Creature Shop creations.

Although the series was under contract for five seasons, it was abruptly canceled after production had ended on its fourth season, effectively ending the series on a cliffhanger. Co-producer Brian Henson later secured the rights to Farscape, paving the way for a four-hour miniseries entitled Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, which Henson himself directed. New webisodes are being produced by SCI FI, and are expected to debut in 2009. A new comic book miniseries is due for release in November 2008 that will be in the continuity of both the series and the upcoming webisodes.

To me "Farscape" is an ambitious work of KS. Trying to combine his hypnotic wavy sounds and the mysterious and multifarious voice of the Lisa Gerrard (voice of "Dead can Dance"). Sounded very interesting to me and that's why I bought it. But after listening a while to it it seemed to me that the tracks are repeating themselves... I miss suspense even if KS is able to find new sounds. What a musician! To me that album is a bit like Real Madrid - best players and fun to look (/listen) at for a while but still missing that something one can't point on to make it a "can't live without".

This a long waited new duo!! a blend of avand-gard Klauss and out of a limbs meditation experience from Lisas's voice that continues given a goose bumps and high introspective self-awarness of oneself and the universe!!

This is my favorite work by Lisa in some time. And to think she simply improvised. Klaus's music is wonderful as well. Not only one sound or atmosphere here - it is at times blissful, at others, dark. It is organic and alive. The marriage of these two amazing talents is completely beautiful and cosmic on a grand scale. And at 2 1/2 hours of music, there is much to enjoy. And to read Lisa's comments in the liner notes where she shares her philosophies about music - well, that is just so inspiring all by itself. She is the truest kind of artist, and such an inspiration. Now, if they would only do more live performances of this album, say in Florida, where I live... (I'll keep dreaming). If you are a fan of either Lisa's or Klaus's (or both), please don't hesitate to pick this up. It is a real treasure.

This is an interesting situation. You have Lisa Gerrard, half of the incredible (now defunct) ensemble Dead Can Dance, and Klaus Schulze, who is an alumnus of Tangerine Dream. On their own, they create startling and original work. But combining the two creates a clash of styles that is almost unlistenable. You keep waiting for the vocals and the synths to come together, to find synthesis and jell. But they don't; the two elements simply do not find harmony with each other. I think it's great that Lisa Gerrard decided to try something new, but this is a case where you take one listen and say to yourself, "this just doesn't work."

As a fan of Klaus Schulze since the beginning (Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, & Irrlicht) I have to say that Farscape is one of my favorites of Klaus' long career. Let me be perfectly clear. I am not a big fan of his most minimalistic work, such as Cyborg or Mirage. I like his work best when it closely approaches classical music or active, rhythmic rock. You could probably say that Farscape is my favorite of his albums that does not follow my favorite pattern. I normally do not care much for vocals of any sort, but the ones here truly add to the work of The Master. If you want to get mentally lost in space, there is no musician dead or alive better at it than Klaus Schulze, and this is one of his better works.

Average Rating:

Klaus Schulze is a visionary. A dreamer. And he is well known for making his dreams come true. For a long time now he has wanted to collaborate with extremely gifted vocalist Lisa Gerrard. Now he made his wish come true...

I am a fan of movie/tv soundtracks (at least of the shows I like), so I try to get the soundtracks if I really like the movie/tv show. Farscape has always been a personal favorite, and while once in a great while the score isn't great, the vast majority are. Both Die Me, Dichotomy and Into The Lion's Den are excellent scores to listen to. They are, as the description indicates, emotionally charged scores. Both episodes have death scenes and the music accompanies each scene wonderfully. In general, scores and soundtracks don't get huge amounts of rotation in my daily listening, but I like having them because I do get into those moods when I don't want to have the visual, but want to hear the music. Any rate I am digressing. As stated, this soundtrack is wonderful. If you are a fan of the show, this is definitely worth picking up.

With its unexpected plot twists, fresh and witty scripts, and some of the best special effects you can find, Farscape is easily the best SF to ever be aired on television. It constanly throws everything traditional about SF out the window and gets away with it because its so damn weird. Great stuff!

Whether you're a Farscape-virgin or a long-time-fan, you've got to get this set. It has the very first episode, which sets everything up, and the next five episodes after that, which flesh out the people and their world. Trust me: If you aren't hooked after watching this show, you aren't paying enough attention!

I'm real picky about my SF. Most TV SF is poor to horrible, with little character development and derivative plotting.Farscape is that rare exception, like Babylon 5 or the better moments of ST:TNG. The characters we meet in these first episodes continue to grow and change as the series progresses, often in surprising ways. The stories themselves are wonderfully different -- you never quite know what to expect, and from whom.My only complaint: The publisher needs to put these out much faster. A Season 1 & Season 2 DVD set would be greatly appreciated under the tree this Xmas.

What can I say about "Farscape"? In my opinion, one of the BEST sci-fi shows of the year. Farscape breaks the ordinary mold, but with an ordinary beginning: A U. S. astronaut (Ben Browder) gets sucked through an wormhole and is "spit" out into another realm, whereupon discovered by an sentient ship: "Moya." He goes into the ship and meets five aliens, and a sixth, but is only a elite, shapely Australian (Claudia Black). They go on many adventures. "Farscape" is lavishly built and filmed, excellently portrayed by all the cast, and the script is filled with wit and style. The two leading roles, Claudia Black and Ben Browder, are the most engaging and eccentric characters in the series. Frankly, I'm surprised that this show was nominated for many Saturn awards and Australian awards, but NEVER an Emmy nomination for the actors, set design or even the creator. As far as I know, "Farscape" is highly appraised by the sci-fi and the Australian film academies, but not appraised by the U.S. Film and Art Academy. To me, it seems just plain stupid that a superb cable/satellite show like this is overlooked by the Emmy Awards, when they put up "Sex and the City," "The Sopranos," and "Resurrection Blvd." for many Emmy nominations, but never for the sci-fi circuits. This show is for all ages, but little ones should stay away, due to profanity, sexual content, and some violence. Otherwise, it's fine for all ages to watch and enjoy.

As I write this, Farscape is well into its 3rd season. I have known about the existance of Farscape from its beginnings. However I never bothered to watch the show because it looked so weird. Knowing that "muppets" (I tease as the show is produced by Jim Henson Entertainment) played two of the characters didn't help. But with everything else in reruns and SciFi showing new episodes, I thought, "What the heck." So I watched an episode and was surprised at how quickly I was absorbed into the show despite knowing almost nothing about it. Five episodes later I can say I am hooked and have purchased "Farscape - Collection 1".Three tapes come in this box-set and each tape contains 2 epidsodes. These are shown in order.Tape 1: "Premiere" & "I, E.T." Tape 2: "Exodus From Genesis" & "Throne For A Loss" Tape 3: "Back and Back and Back to the Future" & "Thank God It's Friday, Again"Overall, not to shabby for the first-six episodes!

I first discovered "Farscape" shortly after the beginnings of its first season and have been hooked ever since. My biggest gripe over the years has been how expensive the previous incarnations of the "Farscape" DVDs have been...til now! This set includes the entire four seasons in beautiful prints at what is now a very affordable price. However; be warned! The DVDs are set in their holders so tightly that if you are not careful when removing them, you may break them. This happened to me. In all the years I've been collecting both CDs and DVDs, I have never broken a disc...until now. I actually had to replace the (Season One) set to replace one disc. I'm not laying blame at anyone's feet, but just be careful when removing these discs. Also, don't expect to find "Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars" in this package. The rights to the mini-series are owned by a separate company, so you'll have to buy the mini-series separately, but it's worth every penny as well.

I started watching Farscape somewhere in the middle so I was anxious to go back and see it from the beginning. I loved the show - much more to it than the usual science fiction fare. Very funny but lots of action and very meaningful stories. The price was half of what it usually is so I couldn't pass it up.

I can't add much more to what has already been said. The production values are off the charts, and the work of the creature shop is magnificent. It also helps that so many of the main characters are memorable and that the acting is generally top notch. I am not sure if this has been mentioned before, but this set does not include the "Peacekeeper Wars" finale. It's still well worth the money, however.

I remember this series back when it was first airing on SciFi. It was part of my daily ritual: Go to class, get home, watch Farscape and Lexx, then homework. Several years later, it's part of my new ritual: Go to work, get home, watch Farscape and reminisce. The acting is top notch and the characters are very engaging. Watching the first season has really helped me understand where certain characters from later seasons came from and what their motivations were. Jim Henson Productions turned out some very interesting puppet designs and work. Rygel is easily my favorite character, both because of his puppet work and because of his personality. Cannot recommend this enough to people. If you like Science Fiction, you'll enjoy Farscape.

LOVE-THIS SERIES!!! CANT GET ENOUGH-wish this package had the pilot movie-ANYWAY-every episode is exciting and colorful-well made-FOR SURE-RECOMMENDED- if you like FARSCAPE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

If you're interested in this "movie", then it's probably because you are already a Farscape fan, and I don't need to go into why that program was an extremely under-rated joy to watch. On the other hand, if you ARE a Farscape fan, then you also know that you HAVE to watch Peacekeeper Wars because of the abrupt (and very unsatisfactory) ending of the series finale. To make a long story short, Peacekeeper Wars is necessary to tie up all of the loose ends of the brilliant sci-fi series Farscape. The ending is exactly what you expect will happen, albeit not quite as happy for all of your favorite characters as it could have been. Peacekeeper Wars uses familiar plot devices, action sequences and (sometimes frustrating) interpersonal conflicts of the diverse crew of Moya that you fell in love with long ago. Unlike Serenity, which arguably wrapped up the even more unfairly under-rated Firefly series, Peacekeeper Wars is very faithful to the mechanics of the original program, and there aren't that many jarring surprises. Of course, unlike Serenity, Peacekeeper Wars is NOT a stand alone feature and will only confuse you if you haven't bothered watching the entirety of the Farscape series. (And let's face it, you should anyway...it's good for your sci-fi karma.) The only truly sad part about Peacekeeper Wars is that once the credits roll, you know that the story is finally over. Of course, in every good sci-fi flick there is always the possibility of future open-ended 'adventure', but in this case, at least you get to lay the series propertly to rest. It's actually a shame that more shows as beloved by its fans as this one don't get similar treatment.

The series had a major fault, being that it ended on a HUGE cliffhanger. And while the fault lies with SciFi (now SyFy) who chose not to pick up the 5th season, I am consoled that this movie came out. The movie itself picks up days after the 4th season finale, and takes us on a ride true to Farscape lore. The movie takes us on a ride touching on aspects from throughout the series, primarily from Season 4. Overall a decent movie, and a great conclusion to the series.

For those of you familiar with my FARSCAPE: THE COMPETE SERIES review, you know that I loved everything about the entire FARSCAPE series...except for the last minute and a half of the final episode. I hated it. With a passion. I have never been so frustrated and disappointed in my life. Well, lucky for me, and FARSCAPE fans everywhere, a year after the final episode, the fabulous cast and crew were able to make FARSCAPE - THE PEACEKEEPER WARS, which was a much better, long waited, cherry on top ending to the beloved FARSCAPE series. The bow on a nearly perfect package. Whew. I thought I would be left hanging for the rest of my life! Starting seamlessly right where the series finale left off, the entire cast from the final season returned for THE PEACEKEEPER WARS, along with many other folks that we met along the way. A fitting final chapter to a well enjoyed novel, THE PEACEKEEPER WARS (originally broadcast as a mini-series) contains an entertaining plot, plenty of action and adventure, a wedding, a few funerals, a birth, and a final, satisfying ending to our story. Additionally, the cinematography is stunning, the special effects are impressive and gorgeous, and the acting and characterizations are as brilliant as always. If you've watched FARSCAPE from the beginning, then THE PEACEKEEPER WARS is the final resolution that you have been waiting for. And it was well worth the wait. MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Extremely enjoyable and a MUST HAVE for any fan of the show. A great deal and excellent price.

This was a really good ending to a great show. I won't say that it was a great ending, but I can't explain why because it would be spoilers. And I sure would not want to spoil this last loop on a roller-coaster ride that start 4 seasons earlier. Please don't watch this though until you have watched Farscape Farscape: The Complete Series And if you have watched the complete series then you have to watch this. As I said in my review of Farscape: The Complete Series this is an awesome show that my wife and I both really enjoyed watching and if you do like this show please watch FireflyFirefly - The Complete Seriesand then the follow up movie Serenity Serenity (Widescreen Edition). great toy ! even people who don't know farscape got hyped about this! and for those who do like farscape- if they made a robot it would have been cooler, but for a plush DRD it's done really good, it fluffy and fun!

I got this for my birthday and I loved it. I am a big fan of Farscape and love the DRD's. This was such a cool gift for a sci-fi fan. Loved it!

What do you want? It's a plush DRD! It feels well-made, the eyestalks are wire-core, so it's probably not for the little ones, and said eyestalks are a little wobbly and hard to pose at times. A must have for Farscape fans.

This book brought me home again. Being able to rejoin the Farscape crew was great and Rockne's story was where I expect he would take it if he had a huge budget and the show was still on.

While I'm not a big fan of comics, as such, I found this one very easy to follow, and quite true to the spirit and tone of the series in many respects. It was great to finally get another dose of Farscape, which I've been missing like crazy. Farscape is still my favourite TV show of all time, and I still re-watch the entire series frequently on DVD. Nobody wants more Farscape than me. Unfortunately, this effort --subtitled The Beginning of the End of The Beginning -- is nothing more than a coda tacked on to the end of Peacekeeper Wars. In fact, it begins only MINUTES after the final scene in Peacekeeper Wars, and merely chews away on a few old plots for a while. It reads more like a Deleted Scene from one of Farscape's DVDs than any new story. BEWARE. SPOILERS FOLLOW: What do we get with this 'new' story? Rygel gets his throne back and becomes a wise, but humble despot -- after a short burst of mild Farscape pyrotechnics and a smidgen of crude intrigue -- but we already knew that was going to happen, didn't we? Ho-hum. A mysterious Black-Cloaked-Critter-With-Red-Eyes is following Crichton around, taking pot-shots at him and Aeryn. Their baby slows the bullets by blinking. Exciting stuff? Ermm ...not really, at least not yet. We're only mildly curious, that's all. Chiana and Jothee grieve for D'Argo by having lots of sex. Aeryn obsesses (constantly!) about being a "bad" mother, just like Xalax! -- hold me back. Shallow, overcooked, predictable rubbish. And Scorpius ...the most marvellous 'dark' character ever committed to screen? In this story, Scorpius's character has lost all the subtle ambiguity Wayne Pygram built up during the entire TV series. With a bound, Scorpius is once again the power-hungry, ruthless, friendless villain from Season 1, who is willing to choke Crichton's child to death in order to extract a basically irrelevant hunk of 'truth' from Crichton and Aeryn. We're given a token explanation for his action (he no longer has an Aurora chair!) but none at all for the complete regression of such a thoughtfully-constructed character. Come back Wayne Pygram. Please. A few new topics touched-on in this book ARE interesting, and worth further exploration in another Farscape story. For example, the Peacekeepers may indeed begin to fragment their society, now that their war with the Scarrans is over, and they have discovered their true origin with the Eidelons. (However, it's hard to believe that this sea-change would happen OVERNIGHT as it seems to have done in this book.) The idea that the Scarrans will eventually violate the peace treaty is also a good one. The idea that Scorpius suspects this might happen, is also an idea well worth keeping. Of course, still lurking in the background but not touched-on in this book, are the Nebari -- another group bent on domination, with mind-control as their major weapon of choice. Indeed, they were built-up initially as a very dangerous and powerful race, so they should certainly figure in any new story. (And we would love to see Chiana and Nerri reunited at some point, wouldn't we?) And there is still Earth to be reckoned with. Humans are stuck behind a closed wormhole at present, but Crichton left "us" with all that new technology as well as all our old prejudices. Earth is, after all, the key to Farscape. It always has been. It MUST be a major player in any new Farscape story. Without it, Farscape is just another space opera in a galaxy far away, and Crichton might as well be Buck Rogers. Any story should always begin with a life-changing moment for its main character -- like John Crichton unexpectedly getting sucked down a wormhole into another galaxy. That story held us spellbound for five seasons, and ended most satisfactorily, with Crichton holding his newborn son up to the window of Moya so the baby can see the stars, and saying: "This is your playground." (And they all lived happily ever after.) The original Farscape story ended there -- at least for now. Crichton needs a rest -- and we, the audience, need some distance -- before he gets hammered with another life-changing moment and a new story. We also need a few new major characters to replace the ones who have been killed off. And -- BIG warning to the writers who seem to be starting down this path already -- this new story should NOT involve the entire Universe chasing Crichton's ass around, as per usual. The writers seem to find this funny. It's not. It's boring. It's been done to death. Farscape's main strength lies in its unpredictability. The writers should give Crichton something else to do in the next story besides running for his life. Maybe he could even call the shots himself from now on. Of course, I'll be delighted to eat my shirt and rescind all this criticism, if the upcoming issues of this comic book series take a huge turn for the better. In fact, I've pre-ordered the lot, so my money is already where my mouth is! Here's hoping for the best ...again. Meanwhile, just three stars for this one.

Okay, I've bought 3 of these new Farscape comics so far, and I've got to say I am not impressed. The graphics are fine, the character's 'voices' echo the original actors, but WHERE IN HECK IS THE NEW STORY? So far there isn't one. Not even a tiny one. These comics read more like deleted scenes from the Peacekeeper Wars DVD -- of some interest to hardcore fans, but awkwardly-conceived and not crucial to the plot. Easy to see why they got dropped from the final cut. The original Farscape story arc finished in thunderously satisfactory fashion at the end of Peacekeeper Wars. That story is OVER, guys. (The white hats won, mostly.) If the writers are to capture our attention for another series of episodes, they should let a little more story-time elapse to allow a breather for our characters and provide some perspective for ourselves, the fans. THEN give the older and wiser John Crichton a NEW life-changing moment to equal his unexpected wormhole trip which started it all. Some new companions and adversaries to replace the ones who have been killed off would also be welcome, maybe even a few new settings to supplement Moya. The writers need to alter the story dynamics, open up tons of new possibilites, and keep us glued for ANOTHER 4-plus glorious years! This might cost a fortune if it were to be filmed, but there's no excuse not to be more adventurous in a comic book, for heaven's sake. Come on you guys, push the boat out a bit. And enough already of weird viruses, alien bugs, sunbeams, etc, which alter the main characters' personalities and make them try to kill each other. This happened once too often in the TV series for my liking, and geez if it's not happening here again. Can the schtick, please. Farscape was the best Sci-Fi TV series ever made, in my opinion. Please, writers, don't allow this boring, predictable drivel to become Farscape's swan song. Please. Please. You can do SO much better!
