Light Sabers

Comments Off

The lightsaber is a fictional weapon that plays a key role in the movies, games and novels that constitute the Star Wars universe. Lightsabers are science fiction versions of their namesake, the saber. Instead of a metal blade, the lightsaber generates a brightly colored energy blade about three feet in length. Though they often behave like regular swords, they are also depicted as able to cut through most matter with little or no resistance and to deflect projectiles and other weapons in the Star Wars universe. The lightsaber first appeared in the film Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977). Rotoscoping was used to create the lightsaber's distinct appearance in the original trilogy. For the prequel trilogy, the effect was created using digital rotoscoping.

This item was exactly what my son wanted for Christmas, except for the fact that the toy fell apart the very 1st time he played with it. I was able to repair it using a little ingenuity, but as far as the item's quality to price ratio it was definatly sub-par.

It broke the first day my son had it. We have put it back together but it isn't very high quality.

What can I say. My son was darth maul for Halloween and was so excited to find this light saber. Just waving it around broke it. The pieces flew off in every direction. I know it wasn't a toy but the kid didn't even hit anything with it or duel or anything. Very cheaply made.

This is the worst piece of junk toy I have ever purchased for my boys. I was deceived like the other buyer, thinking it was a different product than the Rubies Costume Darth Maul Lightsaber. But, it is exactly the same. The light never worked! The lightsaber pieces fell apart in the first 30 minutes. In our haste and laziness we threw the packaging away. However I am so upset about this product that I plan to write/call the manufacturer to complain. It continually fell apart. We attend about 3 functions with our costumes including trick or treating and my son could not use this toy/prop at all. I kept carrying the parts and pieces around as they fell apart at his school party. It was a mess. I have 2 -7 year old boys so I've bought a lot of toys over the years and this is about as mad as I've been. Please, to all parents just please beware. To collectors, never take this prop out of it's box. NEVER. Thank you.

We bought this for our son's Halloween costume, but it succeeded in scaring only us. It broke in several ways within 24 hours of unwrapping it, and never the light never worked to begin with. The extendable saber portions broke off rapidly, and had to be taped together to trick-or-treat with -- after 10 minutes trying to patch the light saber together, our 8-year-old som said "this is the worst Halloween ever."

This was a very fun toy. We got it for our one year old, and she loved it. Very soft and safe for her to fight with her older brothers with w/out hurting herself or them.

I bought 13 of these lightsabers for my 3 year old son's birthday party. By the end of the party only 2 remained un popped. I figured these wouldn't last very long, but 3 hours?????? These are strictly decorative. Don't buy with any intention of using as a toy.

I bought 10 of these light sabers to use for a wedding. My future BIL is in the Marine Corps but didn't have enough rank or friends to get the "guard" to do the swords announcing their marriage. Since both he and my sister are Star Wars fans we used these instead. The lit up well and the added bonus was that the children at the wedding could use them later. All the guests thought it was great idea! I would definitely recommend these for a party.

These light sabers are easy to inflate. The guests at my son's birthday party had so much fun with them. They played hard as boys do, but no one got hurt because they're inflatable. They even light up (though somewhat randomly). These were a big "hit!"

I put these in a party favor bag for my son's 5th birthday party. The kids loved them. My son still has his and plays with it constantly. It has held up to some very hard fought battles. I would recommend this item for any Star Wars fan. I couldn't give high marks for educational value, because there isn't any, except maybe learning to listen to mom and dad when being told enough is enough :).

Was planning on using this as a bike light for my rear seat for it to hang off of. I thought it would just click and stay on but you have to hold the button down for it to glow, which didn't work for me.

This product is tons of fun to play. The company from which I ordered was excellent, the game arrived earlier than amazon had estimated. I highly reccommend this PC game.I own others in the Starwars/Jedi collection and this is the best to date.

Great Game! You actually need skill to play, not like the Battlefront games. Mr. Lucas why have you abandoned the game genre that started it all? Please continue the story, especially for us who are still using a PC.

My sons, 11 & 14 adore this game! They continue to beat it and go back in with different scenarios. Very compelling ( I chose not to say addictive in the same sentence as kids)

Jedi Academy--- don't get caught up too much on the plot, storyline, or roleplaying depth of this title. the game is pure, full on FUN. it's like the designers of this game saw star wars when they were 8 years old and then came along here and put every single thrill-ride of the 3 (original) movies in this game. you got lightsabers -- of course. you got force powers -- of course. you get to ride a tauntaun charging down snowtroopers with your lightsaber, you get to go on a wild speederbike level (i played rocket jockey, those saps didn't have a CHANCE!), you get to hop in an AT-ST and rampage around. the controls aren't so complicated that you keep crashing into walls and have trouble surviving due to that. i have a save game for the prison mission. it is TOO fun. you get captured and tossed in jail, and lose your lightsabre. the sadistic boss hogg warden is bored -- he wants to let you lose, and you're supposed to run to your ship to escape. i say, 'oh you THINK that's how it's gonna go, do you?' forget lightsabre, i have force lightning level 3! i walk out of there with bare hands, two guards see me, and BOOM! i nail them good! bodies are flying, men are screaming, things are blowing up.... too fun!

I first started playing this game when I was little. And a few months ago, I said, "I can't remember anything about Jedi Academy, so I think I'll play it." To make a long story short, this game is awesome. But I think you would probably rather hear my entire opinion about this game, so here we go. This game had an enjoyable (if not unpredictable) storyline with fairly realistic characters. The levels were cool, and the creators of the game did an excellent job in making the planets and objectives different each time. The boss levels were really cool as well, and I thought that they did an especially good job with Vjun. I thought it was neat how the character creation was made. You can choose a main outfit color, a hairstyle, and the torso and legs of your character's outfit. However, I'm not crazy about the fact that you can't choose your own name. I understand that this is for good dialogue in the cinematic parts, but I like making up crazy new names. The battles are a bit repetitive, with the mercenaries and stormtroopers the easiest. Although I have to admit that it was a nice change when they introduced the big stormtroopers. I found that there were two extremely difficult levels (the one with the sandworms and the one with the mutated rancor), but other than that, the levels were fairly easy. I especially enjoyed the level with the swoop bikes. In short, I loved this game! I love to replay it over and over again. Plus, I found that it was cool that it works on Windows Vista. You see, my dad switched my computer over to Vista when I had just finished the game for the first time. I highly recommend this game. I also think it was good that there was no blood in the fight scenes.

Blade II Blade II

Reviews

This soundtrack is really good. the most spookiest superhero soundtrack i heard. It really fits in with the whole vampier scary movie thing. Make sure you get to check out Blade The lyric soundtrack

Mark Isham'score for Blade is not a traditionally written or conducted score. What becomes clear about the score, once listened to apart from the film, is that it's a great horror score. The music is, more than anything, about setting or augmenting atmosphere. As such, the music throbs with deep bass while being punctuated by crashes or cymbals. By far the best piece is the opener - "Intruder." It's probably the closest to a conventional score track as the album gets, but will rattle your windows with the thunderous drums and bass beats. "The Temple of Light" is another memorable track, but can be a bit disturbing with its chorale elements and building sense of danger. As mentioned before, this is NOT an action film score, but more a collection of pieces that add touches of mysterious horror to the story. It does not fare all the well on its own, as the lack of ear-friendly themes or pieces can make for difficult or frustrating listening. I've found the score works perfectly as background music for creative work - as long as you're in the mood for something dark and kinetic. It also makes for great driving music if you're in the car in those magic moments before a storm hits, when the sky has darkened, the air is thick and the world waits for the tempest to break. Bottom line: if you're looking for a great action movie score, keep looking. If you're wanting something brooding and dangerous to set a mood, give it a try.

... Blade 2 was actually pretty good. Tough, many of the tracks i hoped for, wasent on the disc at all. Its a ok CD to add to your soundtrack collection.

#Not a review of the actual score, but soundtrack#Look, for those of you coming to this in search for the songs appearing in the movie other than the composed pieces for the movie will find them on the release titled SOUNDTRACK. Yes, they did pull a big nasty on us with the first soundtrack release with Blade (not II). But if you [iago27sp, I understand your frustration, I can relate] would look a little closer..there is a soundtrack for Blade II, which does actually feature many of the songs appearing in the movie (yet cdnow requires searching for Blade 2, not Blade II, to find it)..take a look..they call this a SCORE for a reason =) Good luck in your search (to everyone).

Don't waste your hard earned money on this one. Just like the last movie, the original score is a bore.

Average Rating:

If the black-vampire-hunter-as-action-hero genre isn't exactly oversaturated, it's hardly because of the strong star turns of Wesley Snipes in the film adaptations of the popular Blade graphic novels. This sequel to the '98 original may have a plot hole (or three), but Marco Beltrami takes the baton from the original vamp-hunting thriller's Mark Isham and delivers a rousing orchestral score full of dark corners and ominous percussive thunder...

Star Wars Dual Action Lightsaber - JEDI Star Wars Dual Action Lightsaber - JEDI

I bought this lightsaber to gut it and rip out the sound card. For it's value, the newer Hasbro lightsabers (the thinner ones that come with the DVD) are actually MUCH MUCH better. This particular lightsaber does the following: LEDs flash / blink when clashing. There is only one swing/clash sensor and I think the board just alternates between the sounds. The small additional lightsaber simply turns on and lights up, but does not have sound. All in all, there are better (and actually cheaper) lightsabers out there - the newer ones cost around $20-25. Plus you get a 15 minute DVD along with them. Save your money for those. The boxes for those look like this: Star Wars Electronic Lightsaber - Obi-Wan Star Wars Electronic Lightsaber - Darth Vader

My son had wanted this duel action lightsaber because of the double ended blade. One blade is normal sized like the other Star Wars lightsabers sold. However, the other blade is so small it looks like it was made for Yoda. The smaller blade lights up so faintly that we could not see that it was lit unless we turned off the lights. Also when you attach the smaller blade into the handle so that the lightsaber is "double bladed", the feeble light will not stay on. It seems that it was poorly designed so that upon inserting the smaller blade into position, the button is turned off within. This toy is overpriced and not worth the money.

This is what my 11-year-old grandson, and his younger brother, wanted, and they were delighted to open them on Christmas Eve. I thought they were a bit pricey, but a fun toy. I'm not sure how long they will last--just hope they don't poke each other's eyes with them.

The Star Wars Duel Action Lightsaber/Jedi is a lot of fun it allows anyone who is a fan of Star Wars to explore their imagination. Yes I would recommend this item.

After reading the many disappointing reviews of fragile toy light sabers, I found a WONDERFUL alternative (follow the link below to the Max Skillz Bo Staff Trainer). It's designed for safe and spirited fighting, is very durable and detaches to make two separate "swords". Of course it doesn't glow, hum or look exactly like the movie prop - but the two pair we've bought hold up under very enthusiastic use and my son has no problem imagining himself to be swinging a double light-saber. Buy two kits and you have one double-purple and one double-orange. Max Skillz Bo Staff Trainer

Star Wars Dual Action Lightsaber - SITH Star Wars Dual Action Lightsaber - SITH

This lightsaber looks and feels like a $10 lightsaber. My daughter still loves it, it hasn't broken or anything, it's just not worth the price. We have better for cheaper.

I was very disappointed in this item. The picture shows it accurately, however I assumed it was a true dual light saber where both ends would be the same size. The smaller light saber part has to be hooked in to the handle and it is very small. It also doesn't make much sense because after you hook it in you cannot turn the small one on.

We got this for my son as a Christmas gift because he wanted a dual sided lightsaber. I read the description and knew that one side would be shorter, but it is so small that it's almost comical. When he puts it into the handle backwards to use, he's more likely to hit himself with the long end than hit anyone with the shorter side. Also after seeing the spring loaded ones (force action) that his cousins have, he's very disappointed that this one does not collapse all the way or spring out and that a good foot worth of the lightsaber is sticking out at all times, even when it is "collapsed". Another drawback is that it doesn't always stay extended all the way if he lifts it up too high, sometimes the sections collapse back down. The light and sounds are great, and he certainly will continue to play with it, but he's already begun asking for the spring loaded one for his birthday.

The light saber is exactly as described! My son loves it and plays with it everyday.

The handle on this thing is huge, to big for my little guy. But the big problem I had was that the light on the little unit did not last as long as the first set of battery's. First I thought the battery's had just died and changed them, but this did not do it. I then tried to open it to replace the bulb, but could not get to the bulb to replace it. I will not be getting him a new one

I'm not a big Star Wars fan but my 5 year old daughter is. I had seen various videos of these things around the internet and figured I would surprise her with it. When it arrived I was immediately impressed with its quality. I have to admit that I find myself playing with it quite a bit and people I show it to are equally impressed. Very fun toy!!

This was for my son and is a collector's item however we have allowed him to play with it afterall he is a child. He seems to love the item. It has held up well so far. We purchased it for him for Christmas.

My boyfriend is really into Star Wars so I got him this for his birthday and he loves it! Sometimes I'll see him running around acting like a Jeti. Its so cool the way it was built, and the the lighting effect makes it even better. Sometimes we will turn off the lights and play with its cause when you move it you see the path. It also feels real unlike the cheap plastic one so you really get what you pay for. I'm really not that into Star Wars but I want on just because its cool.

It's a pretty awesome toy for big time Star Wars fans! I gave it to my boyfriend for Christmas. We had gone to see the Star Wars Symphony and all the die-hard fans brought their replica lightsabers. He was totally surprised when he saw that he had another gift from me. But he was even more surprised to see that it's a lightsaber! He has paraded it to his family members who comes by his place. They all think he's a big dork but I definitely appreciate his enthusiasm for the toy. The lightsaber is just like in the movies. The sound effects are pretty cool. Overall, satisfied gift giver and receiver!

I got this as a christmas gift for my boyfriend and he absolutely loved it. It's deffinetly a collectors item and not really a toy though it was fun to play with for a minute and I'm not even really a huge star wars fan. My boyfriend instantly opened it and started to talk about how he could mount it on the wall. Deffinetly well worth the money and was delivered promptly.
